Our awnings and pergolas carry an industry-leading guarantee:
- 10 years on the framework
- 10 years on the coating
- 5 years on electronics
- 5 years on fabric
- 3 years on accessories
Extent of Warranty Liability
The following are excluded from all guarantees:
- Misuse, normal wear and tear, failure to follow aftercare or maintenance instructions, and accidental damage
- Damage caused by external factors or environmental conditions (including but not limited to: tobacco smoke, fire or smoke damage, water damage, or similar)
- Any alteration, modification, or repair carried out by anyone other than Origin Shutters or the original manufacturer
- Paint finishes are guaranteed against premature blistering, flaking and peeling, but not against fading (colour change) or chalking of the paint film. Climate, weather and sunlight are outside our control and strongly affect colourfastness.
- Small pips or pitting in the paint surface, minor variation in the effort needed to operate louvres between panels, and light bleed through and around the louvres are normal characteristics of a hand-finished bonded-wood product and are not classed as faults (see "Assessing Your Shutters" below).
Additional terms:
- Products are guaranteed to be free from faults and to meet agreed specifications and recognised technical standards
- Where possible, individual component parts will be supplied and fitted on site instead of replacing the full product
- The manufacturer may request the return of a product for factory repair
- Where an exact match is unavailable, the closest matching part or colour will be supplied
- Origin Shutters is not liable to replace all products on an entire order when only part of the order is affected
- All guarantees apply only to the original end-user and are non-transferable
- All guarantees apply only to domestic properties, not commercial premises
Assessing Your Shutters
Our shutters are made from bonded wood and hand-finished. We take every care to achieve a flawless result, but some minor characteristics are a natural part of the product and are not considered faults. Where there is any question over the finish, the following standards apply.
Viewing distance & lighting
A mark or imperfection is only assessed as a fault if it is visible under normal viewing conditions:
- Interior products: viewed from 2 metres in lighting suitable for normal room use
- Exterior products: viewed from 3 metres in diffuse daylight
- Viewed square-on to the surface (perpendicular), with the naked eye and any corrective glasses you normally wear
- Any mark that cannot be seen under these conditions is within tolerance and is not classed as a fault
Paint finish
Minor paint defects such as small pips or slight pitting can occur due to the materials used. This is a natural characteristic of the finish and is assessed using the viewing standard above.
Louvre operation
Shutters are a dense product and may need a slight lift to position them in the frame, particularly bi-fold panels. Because of manufacturing tolerances, the effort needed to operate the louvres can vary slightly between panels and within louvre splits. Louvres should move smoothly but may feel a little firmer or looser in places; this is normal.
Light gaps
Shutters are not a blackout product and should not be judged as one. Light will bleed through and around the louvres, and this may not be even across a panel. Light gaps should be assessed with the louvres opened to a 4–6mm gap, not fully closed. Light between panels, and between panels and the frame, is also normal. Where room darkening is needed, we can supply a roller blind to fit behind the shutter.
Window reveals
Shutters are manufactured square, but window openings are very often uneven or out of true. Where this is the case, trim or caulk may be used during installation to subtly mask the difference. This is normal installation practice, not a defect.
Custom colour matching
Where a bespoke or matched colour is ordered, we supply the closest achievable match. Gloss level, surface finish and the colour of the substrate all affect the final result, so an exact match to an existing colour cannot be guaranteed.
Terms of Payment
- Orders will only be processed once a deposit has been received
- After payment of the deposit, the order cannot be altered, cancelled, or deferred without potential charges for costs already incurred
- The final balance must be paid within 7 days of installation
- If, for any reason, the full contract cannot be completed, payment will be due for the proportion of work or products already installed
Liability for Damages
- Origin Shutters will be liable only for correcting any initial damage caused to the customer's premises during installation, and only where this damage relates directly to the installation of the original order
- Under no circumstances will Origin Shutters be responsible for redecoration, additional repairs, or making good beyond this scope
- Origin Shutters accepts no liability for any consequential or indirect loss under any circumstances
